Sharron’s CABARET FOR KIDS nominated for 3 DORA MAVOR MOORE AWARDS in TORONTO!!
My dear pal Grant wrote this for me…
I am super excited about all these nominations…especially because this is the FIRST time that cabaret has been nominated for ANY awards in Canada!!
Sharron Matthews, Canada’s reigning Queen of Cabaret, today was nominated for three Dora Mavor Moore Awards – Canada’s Tony’s – for her show Unapologetically Me: Sharron’s Cabaret for Kids. The show was nominated for Outstanding Production, Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance – Individual.
“No one has ever had a cabaret submitted for consideration before at the Doras and because of that strangeness alone I thought it would never happen,” said Matthews. “Three nominations for a kids cabaret about childhood anxiety, anti-bullying, body-positivity and loving yourself and others just the way you are. My heart is so full.”
Unapologetically Me: Sharron’s Cabaret for Kids enjoyed sold-out runs at both Toronto’s Young Peoples Theatre and Calgary’s Vertigo Studio Theatre.
Sharron is currently filming the second season of the hit show Frankie Drake Mysteries airing on the CBC in Canada and across the U.K. on the Alibi Channel. Sharron plays “Flo” the most enthusiastic morgue attendant you’re ever likely to meet.
The Dora Awards will be presented June 25 in Toronto.
